Stay Home if You Can

It goes without saying, but the best way to keep you and your family safe this holiday season is to stay at home. But don’t despair! There are still plenty of ways you can make your holiday special. Order Thanksgiving meals from one of your favorite local restaurants offering food to-go, get your Zoom meeting queued up with the family and enjoy! Even if you can’t do your normal traditions, why not make new ones? Just because this holiday season is different doesn’t mean it won’t be special!

Have a Picnic Outdoors

In the CDC guidelines for holiday celebrations, they recommend limiting contact with others indoors where there is little ventilation. If you’d still like to see family members and friends from other households, the safest way to celebrate is outdoors. The CDC recommends that attendees distance themselves at least six feet away from those not in their household group and wear a mask when they are not eating or drinking. You can read the CDC holiday celebration guidelines here

Bring Your Own Food and Avoid Potluck-Style Gatherings

The CDC recommends bringing your own food and beverages to celebrations and avoiding potluck-style gatherings. Plus, this means you don’t have to pretend to like your aunt’s fruit cake! If you are preparing food for others, make sure to wear a mask and frequently wash your hands during preparation. The CDC also recommends having one person in charge of serving the food to limit the number of people sharing serving utensils.

If Traveling, Take Precautions and  Be Aware of Travel Regulations

If you are traveling for Thanksgiving, make sure to plan ahead.  Make sure to check the rate of COVID-19 spread in the area you are traveling to. To limit your chance of exposure, consider choosing a closer destination so you can make fewer stops along the way. Make sure to protect yourself and others by wearing a face mask, frequently washing your hands and using hand sanitizer. Additionally, check to see what state and local travel restrictions may be enforced in areas you’re traveling through.  You can read more about traveling in the US on the CDC website here. Check the health department websites for states you will visit or drive through to see their specific travel restrictions, border closures or even mandatory quarantines.

Even though it may take some sacrifice and a bit more planning, you can still have a happy holiday season this year! We at Landers Kia wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
