Can I Add Air to My Nitrogen Tires? And Other Tire Tips

One of the most important ways to care for your vehicle is by ensuring that your tires are healthy. After all, the tires are the only thing keeping your couple-thousand-pound vehicle touching the road. When you think about it that way, you’ll quickly realize that you better check on your tires when that little light illuminates on your dashboard.
If you are concerned about your tires’ health, Landers Kia is hosting a tire event through the month of May! If you’re curious about the life of your tires and would like an overall checkup on your rubber that meets the road, stop in and see us at Landers Kia!

One of the most common misconceptions about getting nitrogen installed in your tires is that you cannot touch them if they are low or need any adjusting. That is quite the opposite. If your low tire light illuminates on the dashboard, or rather your tire pressure monitoring light, your first instinct is to go to your local fuel station and fuel it with air. This is a much better thought than just ignoring it which is what several drivers also do.
Filling the tires with air just reduces the nitrogen concentration in the tires but does no harm. The reason nitrogen is added to tires is to supplement the variation in pressure when the weather changes. When the ambient air temperature lowers when it gets cold outside, the nitrogen inside the tires is not affected as much as standard air in most other tires. You can also come by and see us at Landers Kia and we can add air or nitrogen to your tires!

Making sure you have the correct PSI (pounds per square inch) in your tires is super important for how your vehicle handles. If you have to make an evasive maneuver, you’ll want your vehicle to handle at the peak performance, and having the correct pressure in your tires optimizes that. Having the correct tire pressure also ensures that you’re getting the best gas mileage possible which is a very important factor these days.
You can check the manufacturer recommended tire pressures by looking at the sticker on the inside of your driver’s door jam. It is also not uncommon for the front and rear tires to be set to different pressures depending on the weight distribution of the vehicle and how it was designed to perform.
Make sure you are safe and secure with the correct set of tires aired to the correct pressures! At Landers Kia in Little Rock, AR, we would love nothing more than to help you ensure your vehicle is safe and your tires are up to the task of protecting you and your family.
