Kia Reveals Design Philosophy of the EV6
Kia Motors recently unveiled its plan for the future during the 2021 CEO Investor Day held digitally in Seoul on February 9th, 2021. The strategy, called “Plan S,” is built on three major pillars: advancing its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, strengthening its purpose-built vehicle (PBV) business, and expanding future mobility services. Kia is making huge strides toward Plan S with the introduction of their first-ever dedicated battery-electric vehicle (BEV): the EV6!
The new Kia EV6 is finally here and ready to deliver super-fast 800V charging, long drive range and premium crossover styling to the electric SUV market! As Kia’s first dedicated electric vehicle, the EV6 is also the first vehicle to be built on Kia’s new platform for BEVs, the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This new platform sets the stage for Kia’s strategy for BEVs, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and hybrid electric (HEV) vehicles to make up 40 percent of Kia’s total sales by 2030. Kia also plans to position themselves as leaders in the electric vehicle market by increasing their dedicated BEV lineup with 11 new vehicles by 2026.
With impressive technology and capability, the EV6 positions Kia as a force to be reckoned with. The 800V charging capability means EV6 can go from 10 to 80 percent battery charge in just 18 minutes, and the GT trim level, designed for thrill-seeking EV drivers, can go from 0-60 miles-per-hour is under 3.5 seconds! Inside, the EV6 offers a spacious, luxury interior with advanced tech features like an infotainment system with 12-inch dual screens, an augmented reality head-up display (HUD) system and an available 14-speaker Meridian surround-sound system for an immersive listening experience.
Another feature that puts Kia neck and neck with the competition is their Advanced Driver Assistance System. This system offers Highway Driving Assist 2, a system that helps maintain speed and distance behind the vehicle ahead as well as helping to keep the vehicle in its lane. Additionally, with the driver’s hands on the wheel, the system can move the vehicle safely into a corresponding lane simply by the driver clicking their turn signal. Other features included in the Advanced Driver Safety System are Safe Exit Assist (a system that alerts the driver and passengers when it is safe to exit the vehicle when parked in a busy area) and Remote Smart Parking Assist.
At Landers Kia, we are constantly impressed with Kia Motors’ ingenuity and dedication to creating a more environmentally-friendly lineup. We can’t wait to see what other BEVs Kia produces in the coming years, and we’ll make sure you stay up to date on our social media channels and blog.
