Kia Drive Wise is an advanced suite of driver assistance technologies that use cameras, radar, sensors, and an onboard computer to analyze driving conditions and alert the driver of hazards and even intervene to prevent accidents. This system is designed to protect you and your passengers by staying one step ahead and noticing potential dangers, like a vehicle in your blind spot or a pedestrian crossing the street ahead. To help describe the safety features a little closer in detail, we used the Telluride as an example below. Kia Drive Wise standard and available features on the Telluride include:

  • Blind Spot Detection: This system uses radar to see hazards in your blindspot when you can’t. The sensors will alert you of a vehicle in your blind spot if you prepare to change lanes.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning: This system can alert you if you’re backing up into a lane of traffic. This is especially helpful when pulling out of a parking space.
  • Forward Collision-AvoidanceAssist (FCA): FCA is designed to alert the driver and even apply emergency braking when rapidly approaching a vehicle ahead.
  • Blind Spot View Monitor: This is designed to display the rear and side of the vehicle blind spot areas in the Instrument Cluster LCD.
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): LKA detects lane markers on the road with the front view camera on the windshield and provides audible and visual warnings if the vehicle is leaving its lane. The system can even steer the vehicle back into its lane if the driver does not respond.
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA): LFA detects lane markers and helps ensure the vehicle stays within the lane by monitoring lane markers ahead and adjusting steering.
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go: SCC is designed to maintain a predetermined distance between vehicles ahead and will automatically adjust driving speed as necessary.
  • Driver Attention Warning: This system is designed to monitor the driver’s attention through several vehicle and driver inputs and alerts the driver if it senses inattention.
  • High Beam Assist (HBA): HBA can automatically switch the high beam lights on and off, like when a vehicle is approaching.
  • Highway Driving Assist: On highways where speed limit information is available, the Telluride’s available Highway Driving Assist  can adjust the vehicle’s cruising speed to match the vehicle detected ahead as well as changing speed limits.
  • Safe Exit Assist: This system can alert the driver or passengers who are opening their doors to exit the vehicle when the system detects another vehicle, bicycle, or pedestrian approaching.
  • Rear-Occupant Alert: This system on the Telluride alerts drivers to “check rear seats” when the vehicle is turned off. Then, ultrasonic detection is used to check if passengers have been left in the rear seats. If the system detects someone in the back seat, the horn will blast for 20 seconds. The driver will also receive an alert through their smartphone.
