Kia Hybrid and Electric Vehicles for Earth Day

Every April, Earth Month and Earth Day remind us to celebrate our planet and make meaningful changes to make sure it thrives. This year, Kia announced a new strategy, called “Plan S,” with a promise to grow their EV lineup to include 11 electric vehicles by 2026, and a plan to sell 1.6 million EV, plug-in electric vehicles (PHEVs) and hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) annually. We at  Landers Kia are proud of Kia’s dedication to a greener future, and we can’t wait to see what new electric and hybrid vehicles they produce. Until then, we’ll give a brief overview of their hybrid and PHEVs as a preview of what’s to come! 

Kia Optima Hybrid and PHEV

In 2011, Kia introduced their first hybrid: the Kia Optima Hybrid! The Kia Optima Hybrid had five generations from 2011 to 2020, and in 2017 it was offered in a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model. The Kia Optima hybrid offered 40 city / 45 highway / 42 combined MPG and 192 horsepower and 271 lb.- ft of torque. The Optima PHEV had an all-electric range of up to an estimated 28 miles and a total range rating of up to an estimated 630 miles.

Niro PHEV and EV

The Niro PHEV was introduced in 2018 and offered a 46 mpg combined and an all-electric rating of 105 mpg. The Niro EV had two models, 2019 and 2020. It featured an all-electric range of 239 miles, a Combined Charging System (CCS) DC fast-charge, and a 01-horsepower electric motor with 291 lb.-ft. of torque.

Sorento HEV 

The Kia Sorento Hybrid was released in 2021. The all-new Sorento hybrid is equipped with a 1.6-liter GDI 4-cylinder Turbo Plug-in Hybrid with 66.9 kW electric motor paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This system offers 261 horsepower and has an estimated all-electric range of 30 miles. 

Kia EV6 

The upcoming Kia EV6 has 800V charging capability that allows the EV6 to go from 10 to 80 percent battery charge in just 18 minutes, and the GT trim level, designed for thrill-seeking EV drivers, can go from 0-60 miles-per-hour is under 3.5 seconds!
