Celebrate National Camping Month in the Arkansas State Parks

June is National Camping Month! What better way is there to celebrate than by visiting some of Arkansas’ gorgeous state parks? From the waterfalls and Native American rock art at Petit Jean state park to the breathtaking views at Mount Magazine state park, there is something amazing to discover around every corner of Arkansas. Whether you like to “rough it” in the great outdoors or you prefer more civilized living quarters, there are plenty of options for you in the Natural State. Read on to learn more! 

Petit Jean State Park

As Arkansas’ first state park, Petit Jean holds a special place in our hearts. Located just over an hour away from Little Rock, Petit Jean is loaded with history, geology and can’t-miss views. The park offers 125 campsites for tent and RV campers. Thirty-five of the sites have electrical, water and sewer hookups. For those who don’t own camping equipment, the park has four yurts available for rent year-round. The yurts have electricity, screened windows, cots, and a lantern, stove and ice chest. Just a short distance from the campsite is the swimming pool at Mather Lodge and hiking and biking trails. 

Lake Ouachita State Park 

Lake Ouachita is Arkansas’s largest lake with over 40,000 acres of clean, spring-fed water. Surrounded by the beautiful Ouachita National Forest, Lake Ouachita is the perfect place to escape the Arkansas heat with swimming, skiing, scuba diving, boating, kayaking and more. The park offers 93 campsites and full-service cabins with satellite television, heat and air conditioning, full kitchens, cookware and dinnerware. Select cabins are dog-friendly so your furry friends can tag along, too! 

Mount Magazine State Park

Visitors come from all over the country to see the gorgeous views of the Ozark National Forest from Arkansas’ highest point on Mount Magazine. While the sweeping views are enough, there are plenty of other activities to entertain the whole family. With outdoor sports, horseback riding, mountain biking, ATV riding and more, you surely won’t grow bored! If you’re seeking a more relaxing trip, we suggest you stay in the Lodge at Mount Magazine. The Lodge offers 60 guest rooms, the Skycrest restaurant, a conference room, business center, heated indoor pool, fitness center and game room. You can even see the Petit Jean River Valley from your hotel room! 

Cabins at Mount Nebo State Park

Mount Nebo State Park near Dardanelle offers 14 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails and unique structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Positioned along a bluff on the 1,350-foot Mount Nebo are 15 rustic cabins with large stone fireplaces, full kitchens and spa tubs. The park offers two pavilions for large gatherings and a swimming pool. There are also 34 campsites (24 Class B and 10 hike-in campsites).
