Kia Stinger Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus Rating

The 2019 Kia Stinger has been given the Top Safety Pick Plus rating (TSP+) by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This is the highest rating given by the IIHS and the Stinger earned it when equipped with optional Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection and LED headlights.

The Stinger is the 10th vehicle in the 2019 Kia lineup to earn a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus rating.

For a vehicle to qualify for a TSP+ rating, it must earn “Good” ratings in all five of the IIHS crashworthiness tests. Those tests are driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraint. The vehicle must also earn a “Good” or “Acceptable” rating in passenger side small overlap front; “Advanced” or “Superior” in front crash prevention; and “Good” in headlight testing.

The Stinger earned “Good” ratings in all six crashworthiness tests and a “Superior” rating for the optional front crash prevention system. The front crash prevention helped the Stinger avoid collisions in the IIHS’s 12-mph and 25-mph track tests. The Stinger’s “Good” headlight rating is for its static LED projector headlights.
