How to Prep Your Kia for Spring

Like usual, winter was short and it feels like we’re experiencing spring weather already here in Little Rock thanks to temperatures in the 60s, and 70s some days, the past few weeks as well as the recent rain and flooding. With spring almost here, you’ll need to make sure you de-winterize your car and get it ready for the upcoming changing of the seasons. We’ve got a few tips to make sure your Kia is looking and feeling as good as you are now that you can trade your hats and scarves in for sandals.

1. Check and update your emergency kit. With winter leaving us, you’ll likely no longer need a hat, gloves or ice scraper. Check to see if your energy bars are in date and if you have batteries in your kit, make sure they’re not leaking battery acid. Things like a flashlight, water bottles, knife, jumper cables, tire pressure gauge and first aid kit are all good items to stash in your trunk for the unexpected. 2. Invest in new wiper blades. We’ve already gotten a lot of rain and with spring coming we’ll get even more here in Arkansas. Windshield wiper blades wear out pretty fast and a fresh pair can make all the difference while driving in a drizzle or a downpour, especially at night. Thankfully, they’re cheap and easy to install.

3. Check, rotate and/or change your tires. Except for the random overnight icing, Central Arkansas doesn’t really get snow during the winter. However, if you have snow or winter tires on your Kia, now is a good time to switch them out for all-season or regular rubber tires. Making sure they’re rotated and balanced and are set to the correct psi is essential to ensuring you have a smooth ride and get the highest MPG possible.

4. Give your car a good clean. We’re not just talking about taking your Kia to the car wash. You probably tracked in dirt and who knows what else over the winter, and we know you’ve probably got trash stashed in door pockets or other compartments in your Kia. Throw away the junk you don’t need, wash or vacuum your floor mats and take the vacuum to any nook and cranny you can reach.
