You’ve had your eye on that Kia Soul for so long and you saved up enough money to afford the monthly payment. You make sure to keep it clean and you’ve got a plan in place to keep up with regular maintenance. You are babying this car because you love it so much, but are you making sure to take proper safety precautions to prevent a break-in?
Car burglary and theft is such a commonplace crime and every vehicle is a potential target. At Landers Kia in Little Rock, Arkansas, we want to make sure you’re doing everything possible to protect your ride. We’ve put together a list of tips to deter burglars and thieves.
* 1. Remove your valuables. *
This is the most important thing you can do to prevent a car break-in. Whether you’ve got your purse, GPS, other tech or weekend bag in the cabin, make sure you take it with you when you reach your destination. Leaving these things in plain sight signals the attention of those walking by and looking to steal. If you must stash your belongings in the car, at least hide them in the trunk.
* 2. DON’T keep it running. *
PLEASE don’t leave your keys in the ignition to keep the air conditioning on while you run in to grab takeout or your gas station receipt. It only takes a few seconds for someone to open the door and steal your stuff or lift the car.
* 3. Ensure the car alarm works. *
Car alarms, especially those loud annoying ones, are the Achilles Heel of car burglars and thieves. Some alarms are integrated with your smartphone through and application that will notify you when there’s an attempted break-in or theft. Some of them even call the cops too.
* 4. Pay for parking. *
We know, we’d rather not pay $10 bucks to park, but those free spots and lots downtown aren’t monitored like parking decks are, therefore they’re not as safe. Sure, parking garages aren’t 100% safe, but the guards and gate attendants are on the lookout for shady behavior.
We want to make sure you’re keeping your vehicle and belongings safe. If you need information on your car alarm or installing one, or want to buy a cargo cover, organizer or net for your trunk/hatch, let us know !
