Tips to Get Your Car Ready for Spring | Landers Kia

Spring is almost here! We’ve gotten a few glimpses of spring throughout the first two months of 2017 with random 70º days and the blooming of the stinky Bradford Pear trees. With the transition of winter to spring upon us, people will soon be trading coats for lighter clothing and spending more time in the sun.

If you’re a car owner, spring means it’s time to do a little maintenance as well. Cold weather can take a toll on your vehicle and it’s good to take stock of any work that needs to be done to help you roll into the next season. We at Landers Toyota of Northwest Arkansas have put together a list of tips to get your car ready for the upcoming breezy, and rainy, weather. Check them out:

* 1. Update your emergency kit *

First, if you don’t currently have an emergency kit in your car, grab a bag and load it up with the basics . Replace flashlight batteries, switch your coat out for a parka or light rain jacket and umbrella and make sure you have unexpired food and bottled water.

* 2. Change or rotate your tires *

If you use snow or winter tires during the colder months, it’s best to switch back regular rubber or all-season tires. Spring is also a great time to have them rotated and balanced to lengthen the life of each tire. After you do that, make sure you have the tire pressure checked as well.

* 3. Get new wiper blades *

Spring in Arkansas means rain and a ton of it. Wiper blades wear out quicker than other car parts and are cheap and easy to install. You don’t want to be caught in monsoon-like weather with worn-out blades that screech every time they move across the windshield.

* 4. Check your oil *

Depending on what you use, mechanics and technicians recommend changing your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles, or every three months. It’s a good idea to check it in between oil changes as well as the rest of your fluids, though.

* 5. Deep-clean the entire car *

Spring cleaning doesn’t just apply to your dwelling. Wash, buff and polish the paint and treat the tires. Spray the underbody to loosen any stuck-on sludge, mud, salt or sand that accumulated throughout the winter. Throw away the junk in door pockets and the center console. Wash or replace floor mats. Take the vacuum hose to the interior nooks and crannies or pay a little extra for a really good detailing.
