Earth Day is Saturday! As we celebrate The Natural State and world we live in, we urge everyone to do what you can to be environmentally responsible.

At Landers Kia in Little Rock, Arkansas, we have the Niro , Optima Hybrid , as well as other energy-efficient vehicles to choose from if you’re looking to save gas and reduce emissions.

If you’re looking for ways to be a little more resourceful, check out Big Steve’s list of easy practices to go green.

• Switch to tap water. Unless the city issues a boil notice, there’s absolutely no harm in drinking from the tap. If the taste truly bothers you, get a filter.

• Invest in a reusable water bottle. There are plenty of options at local stores for reusable water bottles and they aren’t in danger of leaking or getting smashed if you put them in your purse or bag.

• Lower the temperature of your hot water heater.

• Reuse jars, bottles and containers for storing leftovers and other food.

• Switch to online billing.

• Replace burnt-out light bulbs with LEDs or CFLs.

• Switch to reusable shopping bags. They’re fairly cheap and stronger than paper or plastic.

• Check out Craigslist, Facebook and other online garage sale sites before buying anything brand new.

• Support the local economy by eating and drinking at local restaurants and purchasing produce and other goods from farmer’s markets.

Looking for another way to get involved on Earth Day? Here are a few events taking place on Saturday, April 22:

• Pinnacle Mountain State Park is hosting a celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that includes a tree-planting ceremony and a schedule of programs to learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle.

• Allsopp Park will be hosting a beautification event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday with an afterparty at Whole Hog Cafe on Cantrell.

• Keep Arkansas Beautiful and the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation are holding an Adopt-A-Street Litter Pickup event from 8-9 a.m at the AJHF location downtown.
